MD Student Projects & Med Student Elective projects

National and international medical or science students at undergraduate or postgraduate level are welcome to apply to undertake short periods of research, usually 8-16 weeks. Shorter or longer periods may be considered. These ‘elective’ projects can be designed for the individual, and can usually commence at any time year. Projects may involve original clinical research, laboratory based research or data analyses, or a combination thereof. For international scholars, due to the time required for the visa application and processing a lead time of many months is required.

MPhil, PhD & DMedSci Projects

The Jenkins laboratory has several postgraduate projects suitable for higher degree research candidates and can often tailor a project for an individual. The following are the general eligibility criteria:

  • Have a 1st Class Honours or MSc degree and high undergraduate academic record in a relevant area
  • Have an interest in studying clinical or basic science in diabetes or vascular health.
  • Are highly motivated and capable of both independent and collaborative research.
  • Meet the English Language Proficiency (ELP) requirements.
  • For Australian/NZ citizens and permanent Australian residents, preparedness to apply for a national scholarship, such as from the ARC, NHMRC or other national funding body.
  • For International Students, an International Postgraduate Research Scholarship will be essential to cover the research degree fees and living costs. Very few scholarships are available from within Australia so a talented candidate is more likely to be successful in achieving such funding from their own country.

If you meet the above criteria and are interested in studying in the Jenkins laboratory, please contact us including a copy of your CV.
